Where do Thai people come from?
This question has a lot of answers associate to it.
1. Thai people comes from North and from the middle of China.
The historian and archaeologist, Albert Étienne Jean-Baptiste Terrien de Lacouperie, who is of French origin referred to history of China in 1665 BE. Record shows a topography of Chinese calling Thai communities as Mung or Tamung.
2. Thai people comes from South of China or North of South-East Asia.
His Majesty the Prince Damrong Rachanopap records in the “history of Siam” around 2467 that the original land of Thai people was in South-East of China around the city of Canton. Later the city was invaded and the Thai people was scattered to many places until they re-unite into Thailand.
Frederic Mote and Wolfram Eberhard, both historian and archaeologist believe that Thai communities came from the East of China. The reason behind this is because Thai people like to live near rivers where it is good for cultivation rather than living close the hill or in the desert. In the book “History of China”, Thai communities is said to live around the North of Canton. Wolfram Eberhard has written a map showing how Thai communities emigrate from Canton to Yunnan and build the Tien territory during the dynasty of Han of China.
3. Around the Yangtze river.
In a Chinese document, Sima Qian said that there have been one community call “tiaw yeaw” living in the South-East of China around the Yangtze river coexisting with other communities at year 5 B.E. It is aid that the “tiaw yeaw” community had a King and was known as a dynasty called Chao which later fell under the control of China.
4. Professor Chajhon Sukpanit assume “tiaw yeaw” and Teinna is a Thai territory because the “Yea” maybe “Yaun” or “Yonok” are Thai who emigrate from Canton to Guangxi Zhuang around 500 years before in Buddhist Era. They have set up their territory known as Tien in the area of Yunnan (China) around 2000 years ago. Reference in the Lanna document, Tien is known to be the pillar for setting up Thailand. At that time, Praya Tan was the ruler of the community.
5. From Altai Mountains range.
In a book about Thai communities, Dr. William Cliftan wrote that maybe Thai people have its origin from a place around the Altai mountain range.
The mongoloid race later separate themselves to other places but this concept is making a lot of historian disagree because the Thai lifestyle is different (note that Thai like to live close to rivers).
6. Thai people come from the Equator.
Dr. Somsak Punsomboon who studied about the frequency of yin in bloods see Thai have a frequency of blood which is most likely to be Indonesian and some of Malayu more than Chinese. He then assumes Thai people come from Indonesia to live at the Choa Praya river, who later move to the north around Yunnan.
7. Professor Dr. Pravet Vase studied about hemoglobin is saying that the hemoglobin of South-East Asian is almost same with those of the Thai people who at that time live in the North-Eastern. He then denied the hypothesis of Thai came from China.
